Mike Byars

Mike was born and reared in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a graduate of Tarrant High School (1972), Samford University (B.M.E., 1977), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.C.M., 1979). He began serving at First Baptist Church of Alabaster on April 19, 1982. He served as Minister of Music and Youth from 1982 until 1986. From 1986 until January 2, 2006, he served as Minister of Music and Senior Adults. On January 3, 2006, he began serving as Minister of Senior Adults and Pastoral Care.

Mike's desire in our Senior Adult Ministry is to lead all of our Senior Adults, through varied ministries and activities, to grow in the Lord and to be all that He would have us to be. Please see the Senior Adult area of our website for a schedule of ministries and activities. Mike prays that each individual will “develop to the fullest” their God-given talents for the glory of God and for His service. He believes we are to enjoy abundant life as we serve the Lord together. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10b KJV

Mike coordinates the Pastoral Care Ministry as the Ministerial Staff visits and ministers to those who are in the hospitals. Mike also visits those who are in nursing homes, those who are in assisted living facilities, and those who are shut-ins in their homes. The Staff and the Senior Adults lead the way as church members of all ages minister to their fellow members in countless ways. Our church also reaches out to those in our community as we seek to minister in the name of Jesus Christ. Mike believes we are blessed to be a blessing! “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” I Peter 5:7 NIV

Mike’s wife, Janie, teaches 7th Grade English at Riverchase Middle School. Mike and Janie have two sons. Brent and his wife, Christy, are graduates of The University of Montevallo. Brandon is a graduate of Auburn University. Mike enjoys spending time with his family, going to the lake and sports.

His favorite scripture is: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5 & 6 NIV
